The aim of this page is to answer some of the most Frequently Asked Questions we receive. It will be updated as more questions get asked.

If you cannot find the question you’re looking for, it may have already been covered in the Terms of Site Use section of the site.

Age & ID

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

By the start date of ConFuzzled (May 26th 2018) you MUST be at least 18 years old. UK law imposes additional responsibilities and liabilities on events attended by younger people and, because of this, we have decided to not allow under-age participants. We will be checking the Passports/ID cards of all participants as we are required to do so by law.

DO I NEED ID TO ATTEND?

Yes. You MUST present some form of CURRENT (in date) photo ID with your date of birth on it at Registration, such as a Passport, Driving Licence, Government issued military ID, National ID Card, International Student Identity Card or any cards bearing the Home Office PASS mark.

Note that International Youth Travel Cards and NUS cards (unless they’re also ISIC cards) will NOT be accepted, as these do not require proof of age before being issued.

If you are unsure whether your form of ID is acceptable or not, then please email registration@confuzzled.org.uk well in advance of the convention, for confirmation as to its acceptance.

If you do not currently have a form of ID that is suitable, then you need to arrange this well in advance. You can find a number of accepted card providers here: Card suppliers. Please sign up for your card well in advance – remember that if there is a problem with your application, you have to allow time for this to be corrected.

The Proof GB card is an accepted form of ID for the convention even though it is no longer available for new signups to the Proof GB scheme.

Cancellation & Transfers

CAN I CANCEL MY PLACE?

Although the nature of ConFuzzled’s services means it is partly exempt from the Distance Selling regulations, we still believe in your right to a “cooling-off” period. As such you are entitled to cancel your registration within ONE WEEK of your full payment being confirmed, and receive a full refund.

If you wish to cancel after this time, we regret that we will be unable to offer you a refund, except in very exceptional circumstances.

We will let you transfer your ticket to somebody else at no cost during this time.

Our contracts with our suppliers require us to confirm attendee numbers often throughout the year, and as a non-profit company we have little financial backing to compensate for cancellations.

If the event is cancelled by force majeure we will offer a refund when money is paid via our insurance agents.

CAN I TRANSFER MY MEMBERSHIP?

We will allow a transfer of your membership to someone else. To do this, you must email registration@confuzzled.org.uk stating the person you wish to transfer to and if they have paid you. The person you wish to arrange this with also needs to contact us.

We ask both of you to contact us for security reasons.

The new member must supply us with his/her full personal details. There is no cost for this.

People showing up at the convention whose names are not in our database will be asked to leave.

Payments

CAN I PAY FOR MYSELF AND MY FRIEND(S)?

Certainly.

You can purchase a voucher that we will then charge you for along with your registration. Once paid, you will receive a voucher code that you can then pass on to your friend. They can then either use that voucher during the registration process, or they can apply the voucher to their existing registration. It is possible to purchase multiple vouchers at a time in order to pay for multiple people at once.

CAN I PAY IN INSTALMENTS?

As we will have high demand for spaces, we cannot offer this service.

HOW CAN I PAY?

During registration you will be asked to choose a payment method: card payment (via Realex), Cash Payment at an HSBC branch, or Bank Transfer. Details such as our account number are given during the registration process.

The membership fee is due within 5 working days for international payments and 3 working days for UK payments. (There are exceptions to this rule, depending on your bank, but we will work on an individual basis for bank transfers.) We will provisionally hold your space for the time we advise and confirm your registration formally once the payment has reached our account. Until you have paid us in full, your registration is not guaranteed.

If we don’t hear anything from you then your registration will be cancelled, with no exceptions. Registering is not an obligation to make payment, and ConFuzzled will never issue formal demands for money.

CAN I PAY BY PAYPAL?

While we would like to offer this service as we’ve done in previous years, we regret that we cannot do so this year since we consider the financial risk too large. This is due to recent events in which other conventions have found their PayPal assets to be frozen, possibly indefinitely. If this happened at the wrong time, we’d be unable to operate this year – and we want you all to have a fantastic time at ConFuzzled!

ConFuzzled can receive payment via many major credit and debit cards via Realex, as well as by direct bank transfer from anywhere – both UK and internationally. These are all secure, effective methods, and we’ve made them cost less than you would pay through PayPal, too.

The sizes for our t-shirts are as follows:

Small: 34-36″
Medium: 38-40″
Large: 42-44″
XLarge: 46-48″
XXLarge: 50-52″

MY REGISTRATION WENT WRONG. WHAT DO I DO?

First off, don’t panic. Just email registration@confuzzled.org.uk and we’ll sort it out for you.

WHAT DO I GET FOR MY MONEY?

We have three types of ticket available. Please note that ConFuzzled is pre-registration ONLY. Price details are provided on the Membership and Pricing page.

Attending Only (Attendee) membership includes registration, access to convention activities, and our glorious conbook.

Standard (Residential) membership includes everything that Attendee membership provides, as well as 4 nights’ accommodation in the convention hotel. Breakfast is included, and we may have other extras to offer, too. There’s also the Standard+ membership, which includes a bonus gift and t-shirt in addition to the Standard membership items.

Sponsor membership includes everything from the Residential membership, and much more – ConFuzzled regularly provides lots of goodies and extras to our sponsors, as thanks for your support and extra donation.

The room prices quoted on our website and registration system are all based on rooms being shared and filled to their advertised capacity and prices have been divided so that each attendee will pay for their share of the room costs. If you have any queries on room sharing please email registration@confuzzled.org.uk.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN STAY IN A ROOM?

Due to our agreement with the venue and local fire regulations, occupancy of rooms is limited to their advertised sizes. A single room can sleep one person, a double room can accommodate two people and a twin room can accommodate two people. All attendees who wish to stay in the hotel overnight must have a Residential, Residential+ or Residential Sponsor ticket. Staying overnight without having paid for a space in a room is not permitted under any circumstance.

WILL I HAVE TO SHARE MY ROOM?

Unless you have booked and paid for a single room, then you should expect to share your room with at least one other convention attendee. In order to provide simplicity of booking, room prices are split up on a per-person basis and the price you pay is your share of the total room cost. If you have booked a double or twin room then you will be sharing with one other person. Please take note that a double room will only have one bed in it, a twin room has two beds.

If you would like to choose who you will be sharing with, then please log into the registration system with the details you will have received by email and use the Room Sharing system to invite people to share your room. If you don’t select someone to share your room with yourself, then we will select other attendee(s) who have booked the same type of room at random to take the other space(s) in the room.

WHAT FOOD IS INCLUDED AS PART OF MY REGISTRATION?

An English Breakfast and continental selection is included as part of your registration if you are staying at the hotel with a residential membership.

The sponsor pack traditionally contains sweets, too.

WHAT ABOUT MY DATA?

When you submit a registration to us, it is held in a secure format on our registration system and we are the only people who can see this. Data is held securely on our hosted server in London, England.

WHY DID YOU MOVE TO HINCKLEY IN THE PAST?

Hinckley is a large town in the middle of England, with strong national and international transport links. In our search for a larger venue to support our growing convention, we were incredibly impressed by how well featured the Hinckley Island Hotel was, and they provided far more bang for your buck than any other similarly-sized venues they were bidding against.

WHY DID YOU THEN MOVE TO BIRMINGHAM?

With 6 successful years behind the event, and testimony to its success, a ‘race for space’ begun in the closing months of 2012 to find a new venue that could live up to the rising demands of ConFuzzled and its need for larger functions rooms, and more bedrooms. The Hilton Birmingham Metropole stands tall on both accounts, delivering an impressive 33 banquet and meeting rooms for up to 2,000 delegates, and a staggering 790 bedrooms, comprising of a mix of Single, Twin, Double, Executive, and Suites, all of which excellently represent the hotels internationally acclaimed brand image with its modern and contemporary décor.

The hotel is located conveniently next to the major international transport links of Birmingham International Airport and Train station. For those wishing to drive, it is a stone’s throw from junction 6 on the M42, and the grounds boast parking spaces for up to 600 cars. There are therefore a host of easy options to get to the venue, and for those residing in the hotel and arriving into Birmingham International, The Hilton Birmingham Metropole offer a complimentary shuttle service.

Birmingham is the most populous British city after London and has a rich cultural heritage. Should you decide to go exploring, Birmingham New Street is only ten minutes by train from Birmingham International airport and brings you into the heart of the city centre. WHAT HAPPENS IF YOUR INCOME EXCEEDS THE COSTS?

ConFuzzled is managed and organised by a non-profit company, limited by guarantee. Our company articles and financial accounts are on public record, and available from Companies House for a small fee.

Any surplus funds we make are required by company statute to be reinvested into ConFuzzled, and will go towards making the next year even better.
